(Drinking Trends) – Brexit – love it or hate it, it’s brought “being British” back. And what’s more British than an evening of alcohol and curry? But this isn’t a ruby murray and a can of Carlsberg; Franklin & Sons, the premium tonics, mixers and soft drinks maker, have teamed up with two premium British gins and Indian street food at the Penny Farthing Supper Club at the Cinnamon Kitchen this week, and the results were spectacular.

A good gin and tonic is easy to find, but a great gin and tonic requires finesse. It should be crisp and refreshing, strong but with well balanced flavours. These are statements I can make to you, dear reader, knowing you are here at Drinking Trends on your quest for quality alcohol. I advise against taking such a strong stance on the quality of a gin and tonic at your local pub, unless you want to remain permanently out of eyesight of the barman whenever you try to get the next round in.

Thankfully Franklin & Sons and bartenders at the Penny Farthing Supper Club understand the art form and delivered on all fronts; Franklin & Sons premium British tonic pairs exceptionally well with Star of Bombay and East India Company gin. East India Company gin worked particularly well alongside the Indian street food – 12 botanicals including pepper, nutmeg and ginger were a perfect match to the delicate Indian street food including as warming tikka spices.

The addition of bowls of botanicals on the table was a nice touch, such as cardamom and star anise, although it was almost a shame to experiment too much with flavours when the gins were so good already.

Franklin & Sons have proven Britain knows quality. Sure, most of our knowledge has probably been learned from hundreds of years of expedition, but I’m glad the knowledge made its way to our shores. We wouldn’t have a gin and tonic without it.

At Drinking Trends, when we see essential drinks news we want the world to know, so we have shared it here for your reading pleasure.
